Comment on the introducing Companies Amendment Bill, 2025 in Rajya Sabha proposing amendment to CSR provisions by Makarand M. Joshi, Founder Partner, MMJC and Associates – a corporate compliance firm

Below the Comment on the introducing Companies Amendment Bill, 2025 in Rajya Sabha proposing amendment to CSR provisions by Makarand M. Joshi, Founder Partner, MMJC and Associates – a corporate compliance firm

“With lower net worth, turnover, and profit, the proposed amendment intends to reduce thresholds to include more companies to ensure widespread participation as also strengthen the governance mechanism by including a director with extensive CSR project experience.

Without doubt, the move would widen the CSR spending net by increasing private sector contribution to social development and in turn improve the human development index.

However, the proposed amendment comes at a time when there has been a discussion since last one year to overhaul the companies act itself.”
