Market Outlook: Indian markets are expected to open marginally positive following mixed global cues. US markets ended on a mixed note, with S&P 500 gaining 16.59 points (+0.22%), Dow Jones rising 119.65 points (+0.22%), while Nasdaq 100 declined 64.94 points (-0.22%). Gift Nifty gained 112 points (+0.46%), indicating a positive opening bias for domestic equities. However, market breadth remained weak, with NSE advance-decline ratio at 1,314:2,157 and BSE at 1,728:2,572, indicating selling pressure across broader markets.

 

FII and DII Activity: Foreign institutional investors remained marginal buyers, with FII/FPI inflows at ?408 crore, while domestic institutional investors continued to provide strong support with net inflows of ?3,974 crore. The sustained DII participation has helped cushion market volatility amid continued global uncertainty and elevated crude prices.

 

Sector Activity: Sectoral performance remained mixed, with Nifty IT outperforming by gaining 0.7%, supported by strength in technology stocks, while Nifty Energy declined 1.2% and Nifty PSE fell 0.9%, leading the sectoral weakness. Nifty Auto declined 0.3%, Nifty Pharma declined 0.2%, and FMCG corrected 0.6%. Within broader indices, Nifty Mid Select gained 0.18%, driven by PAYTM (+2.41%), DIXON (+2.20%) and POLICYBZR (+2.01%), while small-cap indices remained under pressure.


 Long, Short, Long Unwinding and Short Covering Activity: Derivative data indicated fresh long positions in NAM-INDIA, BLUESTARCO, SBILIFE and NESTLEIND, while short positions were built in BRITANNIA, COCHINSHIP, VOLTAS and MCX. Long unwinding was observed in BOSCHLTD, PIDILITIND, EICHERMOT and HAL, whereas short covering was witnessed in DALBHARAT, HDFCAMC, SHRIRAMFIN and OBEROIRLTY.
