Economic News

* White House Flags India as Key Hub in Chinese Goods Transshipment Network: The White House has identified India as a key hub in a global network allegedly used to circumvent US tariffs on Chinese goods, placing it among more than 40 countries in its “Shadow Transshipment Network.” India has been classified as a “Tier-1 Diversified Scale Leader,” alongside the EU, Canada, Mexico, Japan and South Korea, with India, Mexico and Vietnam accounting for an estimated $67 billion of Chinese-origin goods transshipped in 2025. The report specifically highlights the Pune-Gujarat-Chennai corridor for pumps and compressors, alleging that Chinese-linked supply chains could use limited processing in India to access lower Indian tariffs before exporting goods to the US. The move could lead to greater scrutiny of India’s exports and supply chains, even as the country seeks to position itself as a major alternative manufacturing hub to China.

Global News

* US Announces Up to 100% Tariffs on Imported Drones: US President Donald Trump has announced tariffs of up to 100% on imported drones and components, citing national security concerns and aiming to reduce US dependence on China, which dominates the global drone market. The new duties will include a 100% tariff on certain larger and advanced drones, while smaller drones will face a 25% duty, with most tariffs set to take effect from September 3. The move is widely viewed as targeting Chinese drone maker DJI and comes amid escalating US-China trade tensions, with Beijing recently restricting drone exports to the US and blacklisting six American companies. The latest measures are part of Washington’s broader push to strengthen domestic manufacturing in strategically sensitive technology sectors.

Global Debt Market:

U.S. Treasury yields dipped early Thursday as Wall Street digested the inflation print for July and looked ahead to further readings due later in the session. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note the key benchmark for U.S. government borrowing fell over one basis point to 4.674%. The 2-year Treasury note yield, which more closely tracks short-term Federal Reserve interest rate policy, fell over 2 basis points to 4.176%. The longer-dated 30-year Treasury bond yield fell one basis point to 5.236%. The July reading of the U.S. producer price index, which gauges what wholesalers pay for raw goods and materials, is set for release Thursday at 8:30 a.m. ET. Economists polled by Dow Jones expect an increase of 0.2% from the prior month. “We think that most FOMC voters would see the July inflation numbers we expect as acceptable and would want to see the August CPI and PPI before deciding whether to hike at the September meeting,” Goldman Sachs wrote in a note Thursday. The PPI report comes a day after an in-line reading on the consumer price index. CPI for July increased by 0.1% month over month, matching expectations. Traders pared back bets on a Federal Reserve rate hike in September in response. “It was all in-line with consensus but that still makes it two consecutive relatively encouraging core inflation reports and, when combined with last week’s weaker employment data, leaves less pressure on the Fed to act immediately in September,” Deutsche Bank’s Jim Reid wrote in a note on Thursday
