Market Round-up - 14th August 2026 by Motilal Oswal Wealth Mangement
• Equity benchmark Sensex and Nifty extended their decline for the fourth consecutive trading session, with Sensex falling nearly 100 points and Nifty closing below the 24,400 mark. Market sentiment remained subdued amid escalating geopolitical tensions after the US warned of a possible indefinite naval blockade of Iran, raising concerns over potential disruptions to crude oil supplies from the Middle East. Brent crude surged towards $90/bbl as uncertainty over progress in the US-Iran peace negotiations continued to weigh on investor sentiment.
• Broader markets also remained under pressure, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices declining up to 0.5% amid profit booking and heightened uncertainty surrounding developments in the Middle East. Nifty slipped 30 points, or 0.1%, to close at 24,366, extending its decline to nearly 1% over the past four trading sessions. Sensex fell 78 points, or 0.1%, to settle at 78,009. Sectorally, Nifty Auto, Metal, IT, Banking and Pharma indices declined up to 1%.
• Shares of LG Electronics India surged nearly 9% to close at Rs 1,730 after the company reported impressive quarterly results.
• Globally, US equities advanced 0.5% overnight to close at record highs, while Asian and European markets traded mixed, tracking Wall Street’s gains. Sentiment was supported by another softer-than-expected US inflation reading, which strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve may hold off on raising interest rates. The positive global cues came after data showed that the US Producer Price Index (PPI) slowed sharply in July and came in below market expectations.
Technical Outlook:
• Nifty index opened on a flattish note and remained in a range of 100 points throughout the session as selling was seen in the first half followed by the index taking support at 24300 levels and bounce back towards 24400 zones in the second half. It formed a bullish candle on the daily frame and has been making lower highs for the last nine sessions. On the weekly scale it formed a bearish candle and closed below previous week’s lows indicating short term profit booking. Now if it crosses and holds above 24400 zones then upside could be seen towards 24550 then 24650 zones while support can be seen at 24300 then 24200 zones.
• S&P BSE Sensex index opened on a flattish note and traded in a range of nearly 300 points for most part of the session. Momentum remained missing on either sides as price action stayed subdued. It formed multiple inside bars on the daily chart indicating lack of momentum. On the weekly frame it formed a bearish candle with a longer lower shadow indicating buying interest is intact at support levels. Now it has to hold above 78000 zones for a bounce towards 78300 then 78600 levels while support can be seen at 77700 then 77500 zones.
