"Sensex closed at 72,480.29, declining 48.78 points (-0.07%). The index opened at 72,441.15, touched an intraday high of 73,062.23 and a low of 72,366.44. After a steady rise during the session, the benchmark faced strong selling near the 73,000 mark and surrendered most of its intraday gains, resulting in an almost flat close.

Price action remained volatile within the broader 72,000–73,000 range. The immediate support is placed at 72,000–72,200, while 72,700–73,000 remains the key resistance zone. The index continues to maintain a sideways-to-bearish bias, with sustained buying above 73,000 required to improve the short-term structure. A failure to hold the 72,000–72,200 support zone could bring renewed selling pressure.

Sector-wise, Auto, Bankex, Realty, Focused IT and Energy were among the key sectors showing strength during the session. On the downside, Healthcare, Consumer Durables, Metal, Capital Goods and Commodities remained under pressure. The mixed sectoral performance reflected selective buying, while selling in key cyclical and defensive segments limited the benchmark’s recovery.

From a technical standpoint, the Sensex opened on a flat note around the 72,500 zone and gradually moved higher. After a retracement near the 20-EMA on the 5-minute chart, the index resumed its upward move towards 73,000, but faced a sharp rejection at this psychological resistance and witnessed selling pressure. The daily candle formed a long upper wick, indicating strong supply at higher levels.

Options data shows the highest Put OI at 72,000, where option writers are active and providing major support, while 73,000 Call writers hold around 1.37 lakh contracts, keeping this level as a strong resistance. With PCR at 1.29, the options setup indicates relatively stronger Put positioning, but the rejection from 73,000 keeps the near-term structure cautious.

Overall, the Sensex remains sideways to bearish, with 72,000–72,200 crucial on the downside and 72,700–73,000 acting as the immediate hurdle. A decisive breakout above 73,000 could improve sentiment, whereas a breakdown below 72,000 may extend the prevailing weakness."
